James Lord
Business owner, designer, and engineer. I enjoy solving problems, creating, and thinking. I'm passionate about space, science, and technology, figuring out how we'll advance as a species and what we need to get there. In my spare time I'm either sleeping, eating, or working out.
My Interests
Where it started
Most of my interests trace back to my father. He taught me about space before I could read, and that early wonder never wore off. He taught me the basics of how to code, too. We built my first computer together when I was very young, then installed and configured Linux on it. The 3D printer arrived next, and naturally he taught me the basics of that as well.
He inspired nearly all of what I'm curious about, more than anyone else.
Before the work
My early childhood pastimes were mostly Lego and Minecraft, and later games like Skyrim and Call of Duty. Homework took a back seat, unless I was learning something new, in which case it got done, and I enjoyed doing it.
I love to learn, but for me, much of school was slow and repetitive. Reading and repeating rather than thinking critically, or stuck waiting for the slowest person to finish before we could move on. It may work well as a system for some, but I got out of there as soon as I could.
What I do
Work: Ecommerce, marketing, and software.
Pastimes: Learning, reading, creating, and working out.
Previously: Video game modding, UI/UX design, graphic design, and photography.
Sometimes they all blend together. Different tools, one instinct to take an idea and make it real.
Off the clock
Outside the day-to-day work, I'm pulled towards science, space, technology, AI, architecture, art, sculpture, fashion, and the gym. I'm obsessed with form and proportion. My interests feed into everything I do, and keep me sane.
Why this exists
I built this website as a format to present my work: current projects, future projects, products, and ideas. A profile and a showcase, nothing more than that. If some of it engages you, I'm glad!
